TW1 Gardening was founded in 2014 by Jan Choudhury who has lived in London all her life, and in East Twickenham for over 20 years. Prior to setting up the company, Jan worked at The Palm Centre in Ham. Alongside this she was hired by several well-established local garden businesses to help soft-landscape and maintain mid- to large-sized gardens in west and southwest London. Jan studied both horticulture and garden design at Capel Manor which has an international reputation for training horticulturalists, arboriculturalists and garden designers. Alumni have gone on to create show gardens at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and to present BBC Gardener’s World amongst many other horticultural achievements.

Passionate about nature, the outdoors and in particular English gardens, Laurence retrained in horticulture following a career in accountancy and then French language teaching. She also studied horticulture at Capel Manor College and volunteered at Osterley Park for over a year. Laurence enjoys cooking, and loves growing her own fruit and vegetables to use in her recipes.
Michael
Michael comes to the rescue when we are super busy, lending a hand with planting projects, wisteria trimming and all things horticultural. He runs his own garden maintenance business and has studied the RHS L2 practical horticulture certificate at Merrist Wood.
We recently said goodbye to …
Gill – who completed her year-long training placement with TW1 Gardening in December 2022 which she dovetailed with her L3 studies in Planting Design. Gill plans to continue her L3 garden design studies in 2023 while looking after private gardens in south London. Well done Gill for passing your WRAG placement with us.
Daniel – who left us in September 2021 for a fab job at the Savill Garden in Windsor Great Park. He previously worked at the formal gardens at Pinewood Movie Studios and then as Assistant to the Head Gardener at London’s second largest private garden (after Buckingham Palace). Before joining TW1 Gardening he was at Palmbrokers Greenery Hire as Specialist Plantsman, growing and caring for one of the UK’s rarest collections of tropical and exotic plants.
Kate – who was our first trainee, joining in 2018 and stayed with us till spring 2021. She completed her WRAG placement and obtained the RHS Level 2 Diploma while working with us, and also won a Silver Medal at Gardener’s World Live 2019 and then Platinum in 2022. Kate was a key member of the TW1 Gardening team for over 3 years and is much missed, and we look forward to hearing about her future career in horticulture.
Hannah – who left us to join Kew Gardens, to build on her Level 2 studies which she completed at Capel Manor college. Hannah did a wonderful job while at TW1 Gardening and we wish her well.
Polly – who gave us superb assistance during the autumn of 2020. Polly is a qualified landscape architect who by co-incidence (or maybe not …) has also joined Kew as a Botanical Horticulturalist. Well done Polly!
Additional skilled support
Tree surgery – we can recommend trained and highly reputable tree surgeons. Tree work may form an essential part of our overall maintenance plan for your garden and is often supervised directly by Jan.
Lawn care – if your lawn is in need of ‘intensive care’ a lawn programme may be recommended. This will be provided either by TW1 Gardening or by a specialist lawn care company who works for several TW1 Gardening clients so we feel confident that the work is of a very high standard.
Hard landscaping – for mid to large scale work on your patio, walls, raised beds, fences and gates including complete redesign of some or all of your garden.
